Dear Thorntown Elementary Parents
and Teachers,
We would like to extend a warm welcome to all the new and returning families
of Thorntown Elementary School. The PTO is a parent-teacher volunteer organization that supports the school by organizing
volunteers for various programs and by providing financial assistance through fundraising for cultural and enrichment programs,
computer software and other items not available through school funds.
As
the parent/guardian of a Thorntown Elementary student, you are automatically a member of the PTO. No registration or
payment of dues is required. Meetings are held during the year as determined by the board. Our meetings last less than
one hour. Minutes of meetings are sent home with students and published on the PTO website.
The PTO has planned an exciting year of activities for all families to enjoy.
We encourage you to support the PTO and Thorntown Elementary School by attending meetings and becoming involved. New
ideas and suggestions are always welcome!
Not
all of the committees have been chaired at this time. It takes additional volunteers as well as chair people to run successful
committees and events. Soon, we will be sending out descriptions of our activities and a list of our current committees.
Please look at it and see what “fits” for you. Some positions require a specific time commitment at the
school, but there are many which can be done at home and on a flexible time table. In many cases, helping with a committee
and an event only takes an hour or two of your time.
Please
consider volunteering your time and talent to the PTO. If each Thorntown Elementary family could volunteer
for one event or activity, it would spread the workload of this wonderful organization and make it more manageable, enjoyable
and successful for everyone. Teach your children by example - be involved!
We can’t do it without you!
